JUSTINE FURR is a Junior at University of West Georgia majoring in Anthropology. She served as 3P051 – Security Forces in the United States Air Force from 2013-2017. During her time in the USAF, she was assigned to 27 SOSFS – Cannon AFB, NM and 628 SFS – JB Charleston, SC where she was part of a team, which conducted fly away missions to Somalia and Afghanistan in 2014. During these missions, she manned a 249B machine gun, her Beretta M9 sidearm, and all of her ammo. SrA Furr was a member of the Navy’s Harbor Patrol Unit at JB Charleston. This unit guarded $2.5 million in assets to include nuclear submarines. She conducted road patrols, entry control, and guarded military assets such as C-130H and the CV-22 Osprey at both of her duty stations. She had to privilege to work with detainees as well as transport individuals for court marshals. SrA Furr was a desk sergeant who relayed responses and answered any emergency calls at the Base Defense Operations Center for both of her duty stations. She worked in Information Protection to help process security clearances for all five military branches at JB Charleston, SC. Lastly, she was a trainer for the units she proudly served in. This led more than 100 airmen to learning on-the-job-training in required tasks. At the University of West Georgia she is involved in working at the Center for Adult Learners and Veterans, which processes VA and DoD Educational Benefits for military-connected students. Upon graduation she hopes to continue working at the Center for Adult Learners and Veterans as she attends graduate school.
