Local Television Station Increases Coverage of Carroll County through Original Productions
Charter subscribers in Carroll County are seeing a lot more of their local communities on television. In February 2015, WUTV—channel 180 throughout most of Carroll County—produced and aired two new shows that showcase people, businesses, and places of interest across Carroll County.
UWG’s Regional Economic Impact Exceeds $455 Million
The University of West Georgia contributed over $455,593,962 million to the west Georgia regional economy in fiscal year 2013. Marking the sixth year of consecutive growth, this amount is a significant increase from the previous year’s $442 million. The report, commissioned by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia through University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, reported a $14.1 billion economic boost from institutions of higher learning across the state.
Walmart Donation Funds UWG Economic Education Workshop
A recent $25,000 donation from Walmart is supporting a new program to reach out to high school and middle school educators hosted by the Center for Economic Education (CEE) – a cooperative venture of the Richards College of Business and the College of Education at the University of West Georgia (UWG).
Duo Wins Novice National Debate Championship
The University of West Georgia’s debate team of Monique Hyman, a senior from Stockbridge, and Saleema Lee, a sophomore from Lawrenceville, became the first UWG team to win the Novice National Debate Championship. UWG Duo Wins Novice National Debate Championship “This is an amazing accomplishment, something our entire university can take great pride in,” said Dr. Michael Hester, director of UWG Debate and dean of the Honors College and Trans-disciplinary Programs.
UWG Lands $150,000 Stanley Security Grant
The University of West Georgia has been named the recipient of the $150,000 TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS grant thanks to thousands of Wolf fans who voted in a nationwide contest sponsored by STANLEY Convergent Security Solutions, Inc. STANLEY Security presented UWG with the official award at the university’s annual Police Awards Banquet on the evening of March 16.
Matt Dyas Memorial Scholarship Fund Established
In memory of Mr. Matthew Benjamin Dyas, the University of West Georgia Athletic Foundation has announced the establishment of the Matt Dyas Memorial Scholarship Fund. Matt Dyas Memorial Scholarship Fund Established In recognition of their son’s passion and commitment to the success of the UWG Golf program, parents Cathy Mintz and Ashli and David Dyas established the scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a recruited or current member of the UWG intercollegiate Men’s Golf team.
UWG's Online MBA Ranked Among Best in Nation for 2016
U.S. News & World Report's 2016 Best Online Programs ranked the Richards College of Business online MBA program 44th in the nation. The list evaluated over 1,200 online programs offered by nonprofit and for-profit institutions in the United States in categories of "bachelor's degrees" and graduate-level programs in business, Master of Business Administration, education, engineering, nursing, criminal justice and computer information technology, and ranked the top 145 in each category.

Southwire Donates $40,000 Scholarship Gift to the Southwire Sustainable Business Honors Program
With college education becoming more essential to a promising career, scholarships are becoming an even more important source of funding. In a commitment that is sure to go a long way in alleviating the financial burden of two incoming University of West Georgia students, the Carrollton, Georgia-based wire manufacturer Southwire recently pledged a $40,000 gift that will fund two four-year scholarships.
