The purpose of Competitive Sports and #PLAYWEST is to promote healthy lifestyles while also providing a structured recreational and competitive environment. Our staff is committed to fostering/developing our three core program pillars: play, inclusion, community. Whether you are looking to participate in one of our recreational leagues or for something more competitive like club sports, our program is designed to challenge or remove barriers that marginalize or limit participation. Through this, #Rec4All will fit the needs of our UWG community.

Gender Identity and Expression

Recreational and Club Sports participation is based on one's self-identified gender and that this self-identification is in good faith and consistent with players lived identity. A player's gender will be applied when there are gender-specific rules or player ratio requirements for co-rec divisions. Individuals may play on the team that best matches their self-identification, rather than the sex indicated in official school records. Player eligibility will be based on the gender identified on the official team roster at the start of each league sport or one/two-day tournaments. Individuals looking to update their gender listed on their team's roster, please email imsports@westga.edu.

Race, Culture and Ethnic Diversity

Competitive Sports provides equal opportunity to any student regardless of their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, or disability. All of our programming has rules in place that come directly from their respective governing body (NIRSA, NFHS, GHSA). Some of these sports ahve rules that prohibit certain types of apparel and all forms of jewelry due to participant safety. We understand that these rules may interfere with certain cultural or religious customs and want to do our best to accomodate these customs as long as they do not jeopardize player safety. In order to ensure our policies reflect that and are accommodating, we need your help by filling out our Inclusivity and Accessibility Feedback form.

Inclusivity and Accessibility Feedback Form

We consult with other departments across campus to develop our policies but your feedback can make our policies more nuanced. If you have questions or ways to make our program more inclusive, please submit the following form.
