Dear UWG Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Community Members,
The University of West Georgia Presidential Screen and Search Committee (PSSC) met on Monday, August 19, 2019, with USG Chancellor Steve Wrigley to officially begin our search for the next UWG President. Our search process will comply with the Georgia Open Records Act, the Georgia Open Meetings Act, and the USG Board of Regents Policy 2.2, which governs the selection of an institution’s president.
The committee deliberated at considerable length on the best way to proceed with the search. As a group, we decided that UWG would be best served by considering candidates who have demonstrated success at the highest levels, as well as those who have been thoroughly effective in their institutions or organizations. For these types of potential candidates, actively interviewing for this UWG position would jeopardize their current position and imperil the good work they are currently doing on behalf of their current organization, their staff, or their students or employees. The majority of the committee ultimately agreed that the best possible outcome for receiving a large pool of potential, high-quality candidates required confidentiality and voted in favor of conducting a search that would keep the candidates’ names confidential throughout our search. While we know some members of our community will not agree with this decision, the committee firmly believes that the ultimate benefits gained merits the additional level of confidentiality.
Even though the names of the candidates will remain confidential, the committee is committed to working closely with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and the West Georgia community as we search for our next UWG President. As a committee, we value openness and transparency in the overall process and we will communicate regularly via our Presidential Search website (https://www.westga.edu/
